Welcome to my adventures.

I like books, baking and travel. Follow along with me as I begin my new adventure in Melbourne!

Moving to Australia

Moving to Australia

So much can change in a year. Last Christmas we were toying with the idea of staying in London longer. Next thing you know, Tj had an opportunity to go to Melbourne that we had to take. I had been to Australia years ago, and I said then that I could imagine living there one day because it reminded me of Canada but with better weather and cooler accents. And even though we were very very sad to be leaving London, it was exciting to be starting this new adventure together.

We arrived in sunny Melbourne just a few weeks ago! We had just done a few long flights for the honeymoon and I was not looking forward to getting back on a plane for so long. But at the airport we decided to go for the upgrade and let me tell you what a treat that was! I have never flown so fancy before. I think I slept for about 10 hours straight on the plane. I got off the flight feeling fantastic. I don't know when I'll ever fly business class again, but it was totally worth it. It was weird because we left on a Tuesday and arrived on Thursday... felt like we had lost a whole day of our life. But because we slept so well on the plane, we adjusted very quickly to the 16 hour time difference. Tj even went to work the next day!

Since we have been in Melbourne, we have been trying to explore the city and get an idea of where we want to live. We have temporary accommodations, but we really loved our tiny London flat, so we are looking for an area that will give us the same feeling. Although, after having a mini fridge for 2 years, this temporary apartment feels so luxurious! We have a full-sized fridge, a dishwasher, a microwave, and a clothes dryer! LOL.

So far we have explored some of the alleyways in the Central Business District, checked out Southbank, visited the Royal Botanic Gardens and wandered around Prahran. It kind of reminds us of Toronto. We have had to do lots of admin stuff, like setting up bank accounts and getting cell phones. But our favourite thing to do has been eating out! I am a vegetarian and every single restaurant we have went to so far has had some really good options for me. There are so many places we would go back to, and so many more we want to try.

Melbourne is also known for cafes and coffee. I don't drink coffee, but everywhere we've been has had a wicked Chai tea latte. I think my new thing is to have it with soy milk. I'll have to do a whole post on food!

We are falling in love with this city and can't wait to do more exploring.
